An elderly man drove his truck into his next-door neighbor’s house on Marigny Avenue near Mandeville on Tuesday morning, officials said.
Both the driver and a teenage resident of the house who was sleeping in the bedroom where the truck crashed were taken to area hospitals in stable condition, according to Jason Kaufmann of St. Tammany Fire District No. 4. Their injuries were not life-threatening.
The driver may have been affected by a medical condition, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page.
After the truck stopped, the driver’s foot was stuck on the gas pedal, causing the tires to spin and smoke, which led to some early reports of a fire, Kaufmann said.
The incident happened about 8:20 a.m.
The Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
