St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s detectives are looking for a man who tried to rob a woman Wednesday night as she was making a deposit at an ATM outside a bank on Louisiana Hwy. 21 near Covington.

The man, who was armed with a handgun, approached the woman’s vehicle from the rear, positioning himself between the open driver’s side window and the ATM, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

He grabbed the victim’s arm through the open window and demanded cash from her. She sped forward in her vehicle and got away unharmed, then called 911.

The robber fled to the south toward an adjacent business.

He is described as a black man, 20- to 25-years old with a medium build, medium complexion and shoulder-length dreadlocks that appear to have been dyed a light color. He was wearing a light-colored shirt with a black knit cap pulled over his face.

The Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information to call Detective Matthew Vasquez at (985)726-7830.
