A New Orleans man who allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend’s Slidell-area home Sunday before she shot him has been booked on a count of aggravated burglary, according to Suzanne Carboni, a spokeswoman for St. Tammany Sheriff Jack Strain.
Percy Smith, 37, of New Orleans allegedly went to the house in the Kings Point subdivision around 8 p.m. Sunday night. But his ex-girlfriend saw him outside the house and armed herself with a gun and locked the doors, Carboni said. Smith forced his way in through the back door and during the ensuing struggle, several shots were fired, one of which hit Smith in both legs, Carboni said.
His ex-girlfriend fled and when deputies arrived in response to reports of gunshots, they found Smith alone but in possession of his ex-girlfriend’s wallet. He was taken to University Hospital in New Orleans, where he was treated and released.
The case remains under investigation, Carboni said.
