With Tropical Storm Karen approaching, St. Tammany Parish President Pat Brister on Friday signed an order declaring a parish-wide state of emergency.
Parish officials have not issued calls for evacuations, but officials will continue to monitor the storm as it approaches, Brister said in an emailed statement.
Brister has also partially activated the parish’s Emergency Operations Center.
Parish officials are still determining whether they will need sandbags, shelters or other emergency needs, Brister said in her statement.
In Slidell, Mayor Freddy Drennan said the city was preparing Hesco baskets to use along Highway 11 in case Lake Pontchartrain rises to that point.
Parish residents can call (985) 809-2300 for emergency updates or get email updates from the parish at http://www.stpgov.org/register.php.
