The Louisiana Restaurant Association Education Foundation is awarding $70,000 in scholarships to 33 students, who will be honored at the 2015 LRAEF Five Star Futures Gala on Aug. 8 at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside.
The LRAEF Scholarship Fund was created in 2009 to allow students interested in careers in the restaurant and hospitality industries to pursue post-secondary education.
The LRAEF/NRAEF ProStart Scholarship is presented to students who have or will receive the National ProStart Certificate of Achievement. ProStart is a two-year high school program that unites the classroom and industry to develop tomorrow’s restaurant and foodservice leaders. Local recipients are:
- Liana Aucoin, graduate of Slidell High School, attending Louisiana Culinary Institute (second-year recipient)
- Meifung Liu, graduate of Fontainebleau High School in Mandeville, attending the Chef John Folse Culinary Institute at Nicholls State University.
The LRA Culinary and Hospitality Leadership Scholarship is presented to students who are enrolled or have been accepted in a hospitality or culinary degree program. Locally, this award went to Brice Davis, a graduate of St. Scholastica Academy in Covington, attending the Chef John Folse Culinary Institute at Nicholls State University.
The LRAEF also will honor its ProStart Educator of the Year, Judy Achary, of Lakeshore High School in Mandeville. Achary also was recognized in May, along with her counterparts from across the country, at the National Restaurant Association’s Educator of Excellence Awards in Chicago, for their exemplary dedication to the ProStart program.
