Keep Covington Beautiful will distribute free trees from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 13, at the Covington Farmers Market at Covington City Hall, 609 N. Columbia St. The Louisiana Arbor Day event will feature giveaways of a variety of native bare-root seedlings, such as pond cypress, Shumard oak, wafer ash, American snowbell, arrowwood viburnum, wild olive and river birch.

Volunteers are needed to help wrap the seedlings & hand them out. To register to help, email info@keepcovingtonbeautiful.org.

The event will also provide opportunities to learn about Covington's participation in the Landmark Tree Program, which provides an opportunity for residents to apply for landmark status for their trees. Applications and more information are available at www.covla.com/residents/covingtontreeboard.

Keep Covington Beautiful is also participating in the Live Oak Tree Preservation Project in partnership with the City of Covington. At the Arbor Day event, KCB members will explain how to get involved with preserving the city’s live oaks.
