A 39-year-old Metairie man whose body was discovered in the Tchefuncte River early Monday afternoon died from drowning, St. Tammany Parish Coroner Charles Preston said.

The dead man was identified Monday as Timothy James Beard.

The Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy Tuesday, but toxicology reports are still pending.

The Sheriff’s Office is continuing an investigation into Beard’s death. His body was discovered early Monday afternoon by a passerby who spotted it between a boat and a bulkhead near the intersection of St. Francis and Water streets in Madisonville.

He was last seen in a nearby bar Saturday night, according to Sheriff’s Office spokesman George Bonnett.
