St. Tammany Parish Councilman Marty Dean is seeking re-election to the District 1 seat that he has held since 2003.

Dean served two terms as a councilman at large on the Covington City Council before his election to the Parish Council. District 1 covers western St. Tammany Parish including parts of Covington. He has lived in the district for 30 years and is running on what he calls a proven record of accessibility and proactive leadership.

Dean, 56, is an administrator at Pontchartrain Health Care Center in Mandeville and has a private practice as a licensed counselor. He has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and master’s degrees in mental health counseling and business administration.

“My experience in government and my educational background that enables me to better understand and serve people at all levels — both individually and in the business community — makes me well-suited to continue representing the people of District 1,’’ he said.

Dean, a Republican, is married to the former Cynthia Ann Cottrell and has a 23-year-old son.
