NIGHT VISION: An interpretive ranger at Fairview-Riverside State Park will introduce visitors to their own amazing night vision at 7:30 p.m. July 12. Participants will explore their senses and become more familiar with the dark, gaining insight into some animals’ night vision and their adaptations for survival after dark.

This evening program is designed for ages 8 through adult. Participants are encouraged to bring mosquito spray, but leave the flashlights at home.

FISHING DERBY FOR KIDS: A Bait-N-Wait fishing derby for ages 15 and younger will take place from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday at Fairview-Riverside State Park. A wildlife educator will record the catches of the day at the official weigh and measure station, then award prizes at noon. Activities for mini-anglers, 5 and younger, will include making a fish print and fishing for magnetic fish in a swimming pool. Preregistration is encouraged.

ULTIMATE TAILGATE PARTY: The West St. Tammany Exchange Club will raise money for the prevention of child abuse during its fourth annual Ultimate Tailgate Party from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Tchefuncta Country Club, 2 Pinecrest Drive, Covington.

The preseason football game between the New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts will be shown on a big screen in an air-conditioned tent with bleacher seating. Four Unplugged will perform, and there will be live and silent auctions.
