The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested a man they had sought for holding up a Mandeville area gas station Monday night using a hammer as a weapon.

Detectives obtained a warrant for Milton Reed Jr., 57, who lives near Covington, and took him into custody without incident Tuesday night. He was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on armed robbery and aggravated assault charges.

Reed allegedly entered the Danny and Clyde’s gas station on Louisiana 59 at about 11 p.m. Monday. He walked behind the counter and tried to open the cash register, according to the Sheriff’s Office, threatening a store employee with a hammer and fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.
