St. Tammany Parish has issued a boil-water advisory for some residents who depend on the Briarwood Terrace water system near La. 1088 northeast of Mandeville, the parish said Tuesday.
The affected streets include Tortoise Drive, Joan Street, Owl Court, Fox Court and a part of Garon Drive. The advisory was issued after Tammany Utilities was forced to shut off the water while making emergency repairs.
The advisory is in place until it is rescinded by Tammany Utilities, which will come no earlier than Thursday, the news release said. Notification will come in the form of door hangers or hand-delivered notices.
Until then, residents are urged to boil water in a clean container for one full minute after it has reached a rolling boil. The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle or pouring it from one clean container to another. Any water used in rinsing or preparing food, brushing teeth, making drinks or ice should be boiled.
