A Covington man was arrested Thursday after he allegedly raped a woman he met online, a Covington Police spokesman said.
The victim said she met Ricky Bernard Bates on a dating site and exchanged text messages with him. The two agreed to meet, and Bates picked her up and brought her to his house in the 800 block of West Ninth Avenue where she said he held her down and raped her.
When she fought back, he allegedly choked her and then forced her to shower to destroy evidence, said Officer Trey Mahon , a Police Department spokesman.
The victim was able to escape Bates’ house and was picked up by a friend.
After an investigation, a warrant was issued and Bates turned himself in Thursday, Mahon said.
