Authorities in at least two states are searching for a 56-year-old con man after he was spotted Monday at a Olive Garden in near Covington.
James Charlton Davis III is wanted on a count of grand theft in Polk County, Fla. According to a spokeswoman for Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, Davis’ normal modus operandi is to befriend women through online dating sites, gain their trust and then take money and property from them. Though he has no military background, he often identifies himself as a retired soldier.
Davis is wanted for similar scams in Texas, West Virginia and Maryland, Judd’s spokeswoman said.
Davis was seen Monday in an Olive Garden near Interstate 12. Authorities are unsure if he was traveling east or west. He could be riding a red 2014 Honda Gold Wing motorcycle.
The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office was notified of the sighting and alerted patrol deputies, a spokesman said. Anyone with any information about Davis’ whereabouts is asked to call 911.
