A woman who is accused to stealing $99,000 from a Mandeville dentist is facing more than 240 counts, including fraud, identity theft and other crimes, Mandeville Police said.

Katie Lykins, 33, was booked Friday after an investigation revealed she had been paying her mortgage, insurance, cable, phone and electricity bills with funds from the dentist’s office where she was employed as a business manager. She also used money from the dental practice to make purchases from Office Depot and on Amazon, according to Detective Sgt. Kevin Covert of the Mandeville Police.

Her duties as a business manager for the dental practice included preparing bank deposits, writing checks, maintaining employee payroll and purchasing supplies, Detective Sgt. Kevin Covert said.

When Lykins left on maternity leave, however, the employee who took over her duties noticed several suspicious expenditures and reported them to police.

Further investigation showed Lykins stole more than $99,000 over five years, Covert said.

Lykins faces 210 counts of unauthorized use of an access card, 30 counts of forgery, and one count each of money laundering, identity theft, fraud and theft. She turned herself in to Mandeville Police Friday morning, where she was booked and transported to the St. Tammany Parish Jail.
