Bayou Liberty Garden Club
The highlight of the May meeting of the Bayou Liberty Garden Club was its annual Parade of Hats. Participants decorate hats using flowers from their gardens and model their creations as each one is introduced and described. Nine members chose to participate and each hat was a delight to behold.
Guest judges for the hat contest are members of garden clubs from the area. The three guest judges were: Liz McHugh, of the Westchester and Coin du Lestin Garden Clubs as well as the Slidell Council of Garden Clubs; Alice Green, of the Westchester Garden Club; and Marlene Hogan, of the Lakewood Garden Club.
Prizes were awarded for “funniest” to Shirley Pichon, “most unique” to Donna Spiers and “prettiest” to Robin Mangano.
Also during the May meeting, officers for the upcoming year were installed. Wilma Dickey performed the installation. The new officers are Andrea Lyle, president; Davey Ann Larmann, first vice president; Judy Miltenberger, second vice president; Shirley Pichon, treasurer; and Jeanne Casamento, recording secretary.
Barbara Metge was awarded Garden of the Month for May. Missy Burton was awarded the annual Horticulture award for regularly bringing specimens from her garden and sharing information about them.
