A 20-year-old man drowned Sunday in a pond at a Folsom-area horse farm, authorities said Monday.

Deputies were called to the Clear Creek Stud Horse Farm just after 1 p.m. Sunday, said Capt. George Bonnett, a spokesman for the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.

When they arrived, they found a group of people near a large pond in a pasture. Witnesses said the man, 20-year-old Rodrigo Vega, had been drinking when he decided to go swimming in the pond, Bonnett said.

After a brief search by boat, Vega’s body was found at the bottom of the pond.

Parish Coroner Charles Preston later confirmed that Vega drowned.
