A 54-year-old Slidell man was killed late Thursday afternoon when he ran off the road while attempting to pass a vehicle on Bayou Liberty Road and struck a culvert, according to State Police.
David Chester Loder Jr. was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed on his 1996 Honda Shadow when he tried to pass another vehicle on the right shoulder, crash investigators said. He ran off the roadway, entered the ditch and struck a culvert.
Loder was ejected, and although he was wearing a Department of Transportation approved helmet, he was severely injured, a Troop L news release said.
He was taken to Lakeview Hospital where he later died. Blood samples were sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.
