A Slidell man faces a charge of terrorizing after threatening to kill members of the city’s Open Arms Ministry Church, with a search of his home at 373 Indian Village Road uncovering a stockpile of weapons.
The search warrant came after an investigation into the threats after someone contacted the Sheriff’s Office, a spokeswoman said in a news release.
Before the search, Dusty Gerchow was sent to a St. Charles Parish facility for evaluation after police obtained an order of protective custody.
After his release on Friday, Dec. 22, he was booked into the St. Charles Parish Jail. He will be transported to St. Tammany Parish at a later date, where he will be booked on the terrorizing charge.
This is not the first time the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office has dealt with Gerchow, according to the news release.
“The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office has dealt with Gerchow in the past regarding disturbances and reports of erratic behavior on his part,” a spokeswoman said in the news release.
The Sheriff’s Office also stated it’s working with the Slidell Police Department since the church is in the city limits.
According to the news release, Gerchow “was associated with the church and known by the congregation and the pastor.”
