A crash on Louisiana 36 Thursday morning claimed the life of 32-yearold Domario Rodricous Smith of Covington, according to State Police Troop L.

Smith was riding a Suzuki motorcycle going westbound when he collided with an eastbound Toyota Avalon that attempted to turn onto Opelousas Street between Covington and Abita Springs, causing the motorcycle to crash into the passenger side of the Toyota as it crossed into the westbound lane, according to a news release.

Smith, who was wearing a helmet, sustained severe injuries and died after being transported to St. Tammany Parish Hospital.

The driver of the Toyota was identified as Honora Kennedy Richard, 52, also of Covington.

Richard sustained minor injuries in the crash and submitted to a voluntary breath test, which showed no trace of alcohol. Impairment is not suspected to have contributed to the crash, the news release said.

Blood samples were collected and sent to the coroner’s office as part of the ongoing investigation.

Findings of the investigation will be forwarded to the St. Tammany Parish District Attorney’s office to determine whether Richard will face charges.
