Girl Scouts Louisiana East presented an appreciation pin to Madisonville volunteer Erin Williams and the President’s Award to Covington Service Unit 380, administered by Debbie Melancon, during the council’s annual meeting recently.
Williams led the charge in the Covington service unit in many areas, placing more than 150 interested girls into troops by recruiting new volunteers and impressing upon current volunteers the importance of providing an opportunity for every girl to join Girl Scouts. She not only helped her service unit surpass its membership goal; she also co-leads her daughter’s troop and has organized several councilwide programs.
“As a former Girl Scout Gold Award recipient, she is truly an exceptional role model for both girls and volunteers,” said Kari Volz, director of volunteerism.
Covington Service Unit 380 not only exceeded its service unit membership goal and met its annual family giving campaign goal but was able to do so by maintaining the number of active troops from year to year, retaining the leadership from 24 of their 29 troops, as well as cultivating new community partnerships that increased program opportunities for local Girl Scouts.
