A man and dog were rescued from Lake Pontchartrain Friday morning after the Coast Guard received reports that a 22-foot vessel was taking on water between the U.S. 11 bridge and the Interstate 10 Twin Spans, according to a Coast Guard new release.

Watchstanders at Coast Sector New Orleans got the call at 10:28 a.m. and dispatched a helicopter and response boat from New Orleans and also diverted an HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, Ala.

The boat capsized, sending both man and dog into the water. The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office Marine Division arrived to rescue the man at about 11 a.m., bringing him to Eden Isles Marina.

A good Samaritan recovered the dog and brought it ashore.
