A Pearl River man was booked Thursday on three counts of aggravated cruelty to animals for allegedly dropping three malnourished horses in a secluded part of the parish Monday, a spokeswoman said.

Witnesses said they saw Floyd Williams’ truck was seen in the area Wednesday, according to Suzanne Carboni. Detectives were able to determine that Williams was the owner of the three horses, she said.

One of the three horses had to be euthanized. The other two are in the care of the parish’s Department of Animal Services, Carboni said.

Williams, 68, denied leaving the horses there to fend for themselves, Carboni said.

After posting information about the abandonment on social media, several people called with tips, Carboni said.
