Residents in and around Abita Springs should see a reduction in insurance costs after St. Tammany’s Fire District No. 8 received word of an improved rating from the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana, a district spokesperson said Tuesday.
The ratings are issued on a 10-point scale, with 1 being the best and 10 the worst.
Fire District No. 8 scored a 3, an improvement of one point from its previous rating, according to board Secretary Janet Dufrene.
The higher rating means a home worth $150,000 should see about a $119 drop in its annual insurance premiums, Dufrene said, though she cautioned that rates vary based on a home’s value, age and construction and on the insurer.
District No. 8’s rating is now the same as those in Slidell, Lacombe, Pearl River and Covington. Only one St. Tammany Parish district — No. 4, in Mandeville — has a higher rating of 2.
