Player of the Week

Devin Brumfield, Covington High

Brumfield is arguably the best running back in parish history, and he may be be the best overall player in parish history. The senior rushed for 244 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Mandeville last week. That total gave Brumfield more than 6,000 rushing yards in his career at Covington.

Teams of the Week

Lakeshore and Covington High football

With wins last week, Covington and Lakeshore went undefeated in the regular season, something not seen since 2002 in a St. Tammany Parish public school. The 10-0 mark was the first for Covington since 1988, when coach Greg Salter was a ball boy for his grandfather. Meanwhile, for Lakeshore, it is the first in the school’s brief nine-year history of varsity football.

The football post season has arrived

One of the best times of the year has arrived as we enter Week 1 of the football postseason. There are 11 St. Tammany Parish teams in the playoffs, and I encourage everyone to go out and cheer on their squads. It will be great fall weather and the perfect time to pack stadiums across the parish.

They said it

“Our goal was to come in here and act like it was our gym. I could just feel that vibe all day. My team is at its best when it's positive and having fun. I’m so excited for them. This win was epic.” — Northlake Christian volleyball coach Shannon Puder after an upset victory over Episcopal-Baton Rouge on Nov. 2 that sent the Wolverines to the state tournament.
