Residents of Savannah Trace subdivision in Madisonville are under a boil order because of a power surge on Wednesday that caused damaged to a number of well components, an order that will remain in place until a state lab determines the water is safe.
All water should be boiled before it is consumed, including water used to brush teeth or in food preparation.
Water should be at a rolling boil for a full minute.
The advisory will be rescinded by Tammany Utilities when it receives notification from the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals that samples show the water is safe. The earliest that will happen is Saturday and may be as late as Monday, according to a St. Tammany Parish news release.
Residents will be notified by hand-delivered notices or door hangers and by signs posted in the neighborhood.
