Slidell is one of 23 Louisiana cities that will be participating in a Leaders Against Litter event on Friday.

At 9 a.m., leaders will gather at the corner of Front Street and East Hall Avenue. They will proceed along Front Street and Gause Blvd., collecting litter using golden grabbers.

After the cleanup, the leaders will be asked to sign a pledge to spread the word that litter is not acceptable, to pick up litter whenever they see it and to lead the way for a litter-free Louisiana.

Later that day, Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne will announce how many bags of trash were picked up and how may pledges were signed.

For the general public, the Great American Cleanup will take place at 9 a.m. May 2 at Possum Hollow Park, 801 Cousin St., Slidell. For information on the Great American Cleanup in Slidell, call (985) 646-4307 or visit keepslidellbeautiful.org.
