A Fourth of July celebration will take off running when the 15th Street Flyers Running Club hosts its 15th annual Four on the Fourth road race, beginning and ending at Hubie Gallagher Park on 15th Street in Covington.

The year 2014 marks the club’s 15th anniversary.

The popular 4-mile race has been on the Independence Day itinerary of local road runners since its inception. Race-day registration and race number pickup will begin at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:20 a.m. The 4-mile run will begin at 7:30 a.m., and a half-mile kids’ run will follow.

The race is limited to the first 400 people registered, and red, white and blue attire is strongly encouraged. Cost to enter is $35, which includes overall and age group awards, door prizes, music and T-shirt (not guaranteed if registering on race day.) Cost to enter the race (with the no T-shirt option) is $25 on race day. Race-day registration for the half-mile children’s run is $8 (no shirt).

This year’s Four on the Fourth will benefit local fitness programs for children, including the YMCA and local first responders.

Following the awards ceremony, a limited number of people will be able to enter the Budweiser Bikini Beer Mile run. Overall male and female champions will be crowned, though prizes will be awarded only to bikini-clad participants. Registration will be July 4 at Hubie Gallagher Park.
