Save Our Lake fishing rodeo

The Save Our Lake & Coast Fishing Rodeo will be Sept. 5 to 6 in the Lake Pontchartrain Basin, including the bayous, rivers and tributaries of lakes Pontchartrain, Maurepas, St. Catherine and Borgne, as well as Breton Sound. Weighing will take place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 5 and from noon to 4 p.m. on Sept. 6 at the New Canal Lighthouse, 8001 Lakeshore Drive in New Orleans. Registration is $40 for the open division and the kayak division, and $15 for the youth division for anglers under age 16. Proceeds will benefit the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation.   • RECREATION DISTRICT 1 SIGN-UPS: Pelican Park and St. Tammany Parish Recreation District No. 1 near Mandeville will hold registration for fall youth sports through Aug. 12. The district will offer baseball, cheerleading, football, and volleyball, and will host a football clinic. Preseason practices for all fall sports begin in late August, with games beginning in early September. ROCK THE ROAD: A 5K and 1-mile fun run to benefit the Friends of the Northshore Harbor Center will be at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 6 at 100 Harbor Center Blvd. near Lake Pontchartrain south of Slidell. There will be cash prizes for the top three male and female finishers, awards for age-division winners and a medal for every person who finishes the races. RECREATION DISTRICT 14 SOCCER: St. Tammany Parish Recreation District No. 14 near Madisonville is holding registration for soccer through Aug. 8. Each child must be at least 4 years old and not older than 13 on or before July 31 to play. Evaluations will be Aug. 15-16. U6 and U8 games are co-ed and will be played at Coquille Recreation Complex. U10, U12 and U14 games will be played against clubs throughout the area, and there will be home and away games. NORTHLAKE NATURE CENTER: Programs are $5 for nonmembers and free for members at 23135 U.S. 190 just east of Mandeville. Activities include a nature walk at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6. Reserve a lopper to spruce up trails during a two-hour light walk in the woods. There will be a moonlight hike at 7:40 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, with snowball treats from the Shiver Shack when the two-mile stroll is complete. David Woodard will lead two-hour kayak trips down Bayou Castine on Sunday, Aug. 10, at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Paddlers must weight 50 pounds to fit in the provided life jackets, or bring their own. PAST MASTERS CLUB: The Slidell Past Masters Club will host its 14th annual benefit golf tournament Nov. 1 at Royal Golf Club. The four-person scramble costs $280 per team or $70 per golfer.
