Gene Bellisario, who has served two terms representing District 9 on the St. Tammany Parish Council, announced this week that he is seeking re-election to the Slidell area seat.
Bellisario, who was a senior financial analyst with McDermott International Inc. before his retirement, served on the St. Tammany Parish Planning and Zoning Commission before running for Parish Council.
He currently serves on the Parish Council Finance Committee, which he also chaired for three years, and served as chairman for the council’s Solid Water Management Committee.
He was also appointed to the 911 Communications District Board of Directors and serves as chairman of its finance committee.
Before he ran for elected office, Bellisario was active in the Military Road Alliance and served several terms as president of two major homeowner associations in the Military Road area. He was also active in working for passage of the parish’s home rule charter and was involved in New Directions 2025, the parish’s long-range planning initiative.
“I enjoy what I’m doing in the community — helping others,’’ Bellisario said in a prepared statement. I see this elected position as one of community service.
His wife, Mary K. Bellisario, is also an elected official, representing District 15 on the St. Tammany Parish School Board.
Qualifying for the Oct. 24 election begins Sept. 8.
