A Covington man led St. Tammany Sheriff’s deputies on a chase Wednesday before eventually crashing into a downtown Covington business, a Sheriff’s spokeswoman said.

Deputies were attempting to arrest Marlon Brumfield, 27, just after 9:30 Wednesday night when Brumfield fled in a pickup truck, Suzanne Carboni said.

Brumfield drove south on La. 21 to Interstate 12, where he headed east. He then exited the interstate at U.S. 190, where he headed north into Covington. Once into Covington, he crashed his car into a shopping center on Boston St. and fled on foot.

Deputies tracked him down and arrested him shortly thereafter.

Brumfield was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on a number of courts, including aggravated obstruction of highway of commerce, possession of marijuana, criminal damage to property and possession with intent to distribute illegal drugs, Carboni said.
