A New Orleans Fire Department operator was killed early Saturday morning when he was shot outside a Memphis, Tennessee nightclub as a bystander, the NOFD said.

Gregory J. Howard, 37, was shot while leaving the Mynt nightclub when at least two shooters fired toward a crowd outside the club, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal

The Commercial Appeal said a group of people who confronted the club's DJ with complaints about the music was kicked out prior to the shooting. No arrests have been made and the Memphis Police Department's investigation is ongoing.

The NOFD said Howard, who was in Memphis for a basketball tournament for law enforcement and first responders, was a nine-year veteran of the department and leaves behind a wife and two children.
