A woman was booked Monday on allegations that she kidnapped a young child reported missing in New Orleans on Sunday night.
Police said Feliciana Winniford, 30, took the 22-month-old boy from an apartment complex in the 3300 block of Garden Oaks Drive around 7:50 p.m.
The boy was later found safe with Winniford at an apartment complex on Westbend Parkway, police said.
The toddler’s mother had dropped the boy off with a friend at the Garden Oaks apartment complex around 6:30 p.m., police said. The friend later called the mother to say the child was missing after he was last seen in the rear courtyard of the complex, playing with other children.
Surveillance video showed Winniford taking the child and walking toward General De Gaulle Drive, police said.
Winniford was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on one count of aggravated kidnapping of a child. In Louisiana, anyone convicted of that particular crime faces mandatory life imprisonment.
