A Pennsylvania man visiting New Orleans was arrested Thursday for allegedly raping another man in an attempt to fulfill a strangulation sex fantasy.
Police arrested Kyle Muthler, 24, for second-degree rape, theft and other charges stemming from the alleged assault, which occurred on June 10 in Muthler's hotel room, according to an arrest warrant.
The warrant said the victim met Muthler at the Good Friends Bar in the French Quarter at about 3:30 a.m.
The two men, who were both visiting New Orleans, drank beers before going back to Muthler's hotel room to have consensual sex, according to the warrant.
The victim told police that once the two men were back at the hotel room, Muthler said he enjoyed choking his sexual partners until they became unconscious.
He told the victim that he was a trained nurse and knew "how to make a person unconscious without harming them," according to the arrest warrant.
When the victim said he was no longer interested in having sex, Muthler allegedly choked him until he lost consciousness.
The victim told police he woke up to Muthler raping him and was unable to fight him off.
After the assault, the victim fled the hotel room and later realized his watch had been stolen and credit cards were missing from his wallet.
A break in the case came three days later, according to the warrant, when the victim saw Muthler at Oz nightclub in the 800 block of Bourbon Street.
Muthler was allegedly wearing the victim's watch, and police later observed him taking off the watch as they approached, according to the warrant.
It was not immediately clear why Muthler was not arrested until Thursday.
He was charged with second-degree rape, second-degree kidnapping, aggravated battery, theft and possession of stolen property.
Muthler's bond was set at $75,000. It was not clear if he was still in prison as of Friday morning.
