Police this week jailed three teens in connection with car burglaries in Kenner and Metairie.
About 1:09 a.m. Wednesday, Kenner Police Lt. Russell Moran was patrolling south Kenner when he allegedly spotted Eugene Slayton, 17, of Metairie, and two unidentified 13-year-old boys breaking into a car in the 2100 block of Kansas Avenue.
The three ran when they noticed Moran's cruiser, but officers chased and arrested them.
Investigators said they later determined that the three had burglarized cars in the 8100 blocks of Weston Street and Canberra Court as well as the 1100 block of Lynette Street in Metairie. Police reached that conclusion after recovering stolen property and speaking with the teens, they said.
Kenner police said the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office was handling the Metairie vehicle burglaries.
Slayton remained in custody on Thursday evening in lieu of $64,000 bond. The two minors were transported to the Rivarde Juvenile Detention Center, in Harvey, to await a hearing meant to determine whether they should remain in custody.
