A local prep baseball coach is accused of punching another coach when their paths crossed at a store near Covington last week.

Christian Westcott, a 44-year-old assistant coach at Lakeshore High School, received a citation for one count of simple battery following the incident on Friday afternoon, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office said Wednesday.

The Sheriff's Office didn't identify the victim, but multiple sources said it was Chad Catalano, 34, who is the head baseball coach at Isidore Newman School in New Orleans and who lives in Ponchatoula.

Authorities said a 34-year-old Ponchatoula man was shopping at a sporting goods store when Westcott, a former friend, entered. The two had an argument that ended with Westcott striking the other man in the face, injuring his chin, the Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies later contacted Westcott and issued a court summons.

The sources said the altercation occurred at the store Prep Fan Sports.

Westcott's coaching position at Lakeshore, which is near Mandeville, is non-faculty. His status at the school wasn't immediately clear, though one of the sources said he did not coach at a Lakeshore game on Wednesday afternoon.

Catalano began coaching at Newman last year after a stint at Northlake Christian School in Covington.
