Four men took part in a bloody, 10-minute-long attack on a fellow inmate inside the New Orleans jail last week, according to arrest reports.

Deputies said video surveillance caught the mass beating delivered to the 27-year-old inmate, who was hospitalized for lacerations and puncture wounds to the upper torso and head.

All four suspects were awaiting trial on other charges when the attack took place about 5:15 p.m. Nov. 30, according to court records. Authorities rebooked inmates Furnell Luckett, 28, Halbert Adams, 27, Frederick Johnson, 33, and Eugene Scott, 23, on aggravated battery and other counts in connection with the incident.

Investigators gave no hint of a motive for the attack in arrest reports.

Deputies said video surveillance caught the four attackers punching, kicking and hitting the victim with a chair on the “A” pod of the Orleans Justice Center's third floor. The cameras also captured images of Scott running to stash objects in a corner of the “yard,” according to an arrest report.

Agent Christopher Power said he later determined that Scott was trying to hide three shanks.

The victim was left bleeding from his head and upper torso, deputies said. He was taken to University Medical Center for treatment.

The victim was awaiting trial on charges of possession of a firearm by a felon and illegal carrying of a weapon with a controlled dangerous substance.
