One man has died from his injuries after a single-vehicle crash into a Metairie business early Friday morning, according to a release from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
Jefferson Parish Coroner Dr. Gerry Cvitanovich identified the driver in question as Robert Maher III, 34, of Harvey.
Maher was conscious but in critical condition after the 1 a.m. crash in the 3400 block of West Esplanade Avenue, which is near North Causeway Boulevard. He died after being taken to University Medical Center.
Maher's car crashed into the back wall of Royal Cleaners & Laundry, causing a substantial amount damage to the building housing the business as well as knocking out the power there, officials said.
Deputies said Maher failed to "negotiate a curve" along West Esplanade, which caused him to leave the road.
