The New Orleans Police Department said it is searching for a cop car belonging to one of its detectives that was stolen early Thursday morning.

Police said that surveillance video captured the moment when two unknown perpetrators broke into the detective's blue Chevrolet rental car in the 7500 block of Wave Drive at about 2 a.m. Inside the pair found keys to the officer's unmarked, silver 2015 Ford Taurus, as well as his personal vehicle, a white 2010 GMC Sierra.

The thieves first took the cop car. About 40 minutes later they came back for the pick-up truck, police said.

The perpetrators used a 2008 Lincoln MKX that was previously reported stolen to arrive and leave, police said.

Police said the police car has a Louisiana public license plate 244838. The Sierra has Louisiana license plate B819594.

Authorities asked anyone with information on the incident to call Seventh District detectives at (504) 658-6070.
