Police are investigating after a woman's body was found on a train track at Old Gentilly Road and Chef Menteur Highway in New Orleans East on Friday morning.

New Orleans Police Department spokesman Beau Tidwell said it appeared the woman had died after being struck by a train, but the case remained under investigation.

Police first received a call of a body at a crossing there about 3 a.m., but officers couldn't find anything. Officers found the corpse after a second call that came in about sunrise.

The New Orleans Coroner's Office has recovered the body of the woman, whose identity was not immediately available.
