St. Roch double shooting

Two men were shot in St. Roch on Friday afternoon according to New Orleans police and a witness.

Police said the shooting happened near the intersection of N. Tonti Street and Almonaster Avenue at about 3:30 p.m. Police did not immediately release information on the condition of the victims.

One man said he heard about eight, rapid gunshots from inside his house. The shooting left a bullet hole in the rear passenger-side window of a minivan parked in front of Mama's Cooking.

A woman who lives nearby, who gave her name only as Mashon, said that a fistfight happened on the street about a half hour before the shooting.

"Neither victim had anything to do with the incident," Mashon said.

She said she did not witness the shooting but saw its aftermath. Neither victim appeared to suffer from life-threatening injuries, she said.

Police had cordoned off a block of Almonaster Avenue to investigate shooting, leading to the diversion of traffic in the area.
