A Slidell man pleaded guilty to second-degree rape last week and was sentenced to 10 years in prison by 22nd Judicial District Judge Martin Coady.
Charles J. O'Neill, 38, invited a woman to his home last June 2, locked the doors and raped her, according to Lisa Frazier Page, spokeswoman for District Attorney Warren Montgomery.
He later sent the victim a battery of text messages apologizing for what he had done and begging her not to report the crime, Page said.
O'Neill was arrested by the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office and admitted in a statement that the victim did not consent to sex.
Assistant District Attorney Jay Adair prosecuted the case.
