The man found burned beyond recognition behind a vacant Winn-Dixie store in Gentilly Woods Feb. 23 was identified as 28-year-old Henry Dunaway Thursday, the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office said.
The coroner's notice listed Dunaway's cause of death as thermal injuries.
Dunaway's family and friends expected him to be identified as the deceased man once authorities received medical records related to a broken leg he suffered in Texas last year.

David Klein, a 52-year-old man Dunaway considered a friend, was jailed on a count of second-degree murder in connection with the case.
Police said Klein was booked after being identified as the only other person near the victim at the time the fire and the body were discovered. Klein admitted putting a box on top of the slain man while he slept but told officers, "I didn't do it," apparently referring to the fire or the man's death.
Security camera footage shows flames erupt as Klein flees from where the man's charred, smoldering body was later found.
