One man was shot in the head and killed early Thursday morning in Central City, continuing a run of violence that has seen 10 people shot in a 72-hour stretch.
The shooting occurred around 6 a.m. at the intersection of Josephine and Magnolia streets, police said. The man was transported to an area hospital for treatment; his condition was not immediately available.
It was the second recent shooting for the area, with a fatal shooting coming just a few blocks away less than 24 hours ealier.
After a violent Mardi Gras in New Orleans, the killing continued on Ash Wednesday morning in Central City.
Police said that about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, officers responding to a 911 call found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head in the parking lot of a corner store at St. Andrew and Felicity streets. The man was transported to an area hospital in critical condition, where he later died. The man has not yet been identified.
Thursday's shooting continues a violent week for New Orleans, which has seen at least 10 people shot, four fatally, since Tuesday.
No other details were immediately available.
