A man and woman were arrested Tuesday after a law enforcement raid in Chalmette turned up about $17,000 in heroin and crack cocaine as well as a stolen pistol, according to authorities.

The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office, the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and the New Orleans Police Department all executed a search warrant in the 400 block of East Liberaux Street before arresting Chris Wells, 33, and Ashli Martin, 32, on a slew of criminal counts.

According to St. Bernard Parish Sheriff James Pohlmann, authorities during the raid seized three ounces of heroin worth about $8,340 at the home. One bag of heroin contained more than 100 doses, an amount that goes for more than $5,300 on the street, Pohlmann said.

Authorities also seized more than 45 grams of crack, a total worth about $9,060. One of the crack bags alone had 40 doses, worth $800.

Agents also recovered a 9mm handgun reported stolen out of Texas, Pohlmann said.

Wells and Martin were booked on counts that included possession of heroin and crack with the intent to distribute, possession of a stolen firearm and a parole violation. Wells was also booked on a warrant out of New Orleans that accused him of distributing heroin.
