New Orleans police have jailed a 29-year-old man suspected of raping a woman and taking her purse as she walked in the French Quarter-Marigny border earlier this year.
James Young was booked Monday on counts of second-degree rape and simple robbery in an attack that police said occurred about 2:40 a.m. April 16.
Police said the victim in the case had left a local bar and was walking down the 1400 block of Chartres Street when she was sexually assaulted early on a Sunday morning. Afterwards, the attacker — described as an unknown man — took the woman's purse and fled toward Barracks Street, police have said.
Investigators on April 17 released a computer sketch of the man they said was responsible for the rape, but it was a little more than two months before authorities made an arrest.
Police did not immediately specify how they connected Young to the case.
