New Orleans police on Wednesday jailed a suspect in the Jan. 11 slaying of 20-year-old Kwame Morris.

Alquan Johnson, 19, is facing one count of second-degree murder in connection with the case, police said.

Officers responding to a report of gunshots found Morris lying face down in a ditch, next to a running car and a woman, in the 1600 block of Flanders Street on the night of the killing, police said. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police arrested Johnson in the 1100 block of Clouet Street, in the St. Claude neighborhood, Wednesday. He faces mandatory life imprisonment if eventually convicted of murdering Morris.
