A Zachary man was arrested by Louisiana State Police early Saturday morning for allegedly firing a semi-automatic pistol at several cars and a hotel in New Orleans' Central Business District.
State troopers said they learned Joseph David III, 27, had returned to his hotel on Common Street after an altercation in the French Quarter. A short time later, David reportedly left his hotel and walked down Camp Street, pointing his pistol at several cars and people as he walked.
When he reached the corner of Camp and Gravier Street, he fired at a passing vehicle, hitting it “numerous times,” though no one was injured, police said. He continued walking, firing more shots at the La Quinta Inn & Suites' lobby entrance in the 300 block of Camp Street, striking the hotel’s doors and another car.
Troopers found David around 1:30 a.m. still armed in a parking garage and fired on him before he surrendered. No one was injured during the arrest.
David was booked into the Orleans Justice Center on counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer, aggravated assault with a firearm and aggravated criminal damage to property.
