The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office on Thursday arrested a suspect in a deadly double shooting in Marrero last year.
Kentrell Hudson, 22, is accused of a Nov. 16 attack that left Frank Bailey dead and Katerina Gutierrez wounded inside of a car parked at the Ridgefield Apartments at 2800 Mount Kennedy Drive, the Sheriff's Office said.
He is facing charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder, as well as obstruction of justice, attempted escape, resisting arrest and battery on a law enforcement official after he allegedly smashed his cell phone and tussled with deputies at the end of an interrogation.
According to the Sheriff's Office, after he was identified as a suspect in the case, patrol deputies went to pick Hudson up Thursday in the Mount Kennedy area. He led deputies that approached him on a brief foot chase but was captured and taken to the Sheriff's Office's criminal investigations bureau for questioning, agency spokesman Col. John Fortunato said in a statement.
Following his interview with investigators, a sergeant informed Hudson that the Sheriff's Office would obtain a warrant to search the contents of his cell phone, Fortunato said. Hudson then destroyed his phone by slamming it "violently" to the ground, according to Fortunato.
Hudson was led out of the interrogation room and tried to escape but was again collared and taken to the jail in Gretna after a struggle with detectives, Fortunato said.
Court records show that Hudson has one prior felony conviction in Jefferson Parish, where he pleaded guilty in 2014 to a charge of illegally using a firearm and subsequently spent some time in prison.
