Lorenzo Zamora, wanted in the beating death of 52-year-old David Mayes in Metairie, surrendered to authorities Sunday, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
Zamora was booked with second-degree murder and armed robbery.
Authorities have issued arrest warrants for a suspect in a murder and armed robbery in Metairie, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
A witness reported seeing Lorenzo Zamora talking with David Mayes in the 6200 block of Riverside Drive, the Sheriff's Office said. Without provocation, Zamora allegedly struck Mayes several times with his fist, knocking the Mayes to the ground.
Zamora reportedly left Mayes unconsciously lying on the ground and shortly returned with another man. The man Zamora returned with has been identified as Christopher Powell, 39, of 3501 Apollo Drive.
Zamora and Powell allegedly robbed the victim as he remained unconscious, the Sheriff's Office said.
Zamora returned a second time, and allegedly kicked Mayes repeatedly.
Mayes, 52, was transported to University Hospital. He underwent surgery and remained in critical condition until Saturday afternoon, when he was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained during the attack, the Sheriff's Office said.
Powell has been arrested and booked with armed robbery.
