St. John the Baptist Parish School Board President Clarence Triche was recovering at a hospital Tuesday after suffering what he called a “very mild” heart attack.

Triche, 74, was at home in LaPlace on Monday when he felt a sharp pain in his chest.

“It was just an immediate thing,” he said by phone Tuesday.

He was taken to Ochsner Medical Center in Kenner for testing. “They went in and took a look at the heart,” he said, and found that he had suffered a heart attack.

Triche, who has served on the school board for 26 years after a 24-year career in the St. John school system, said he expected to be released from the hospital Wednesday morning after a two-night stay.

“I’m doing better right now,” he said.
